Creating Sweet Miracles
1. Research as much as you can. Knowledge is key. The more you know before you apply, the more comfortable you will be during the process.
2. Fill out our online application.
3. We will set up a phone interview where we will go over the entire process, find out more about you and answer any questions you may have.
4. After the initial phone interview, we will build your profile. This is the time for you to let us know your preferences and what you expect in your journey.
5. Background check on both you and your partner if applicable.
6. Medical record request and review.
7. You will be presented several profiles and if you both want to meet; we will set up a match meeting with each other.
8. Once you are officially matched, you will do your medical screening. This involves both medical and psychological screening. During the psychological screening, you will speak to a psychologist to make sure you are ready for the process. You may need to perform a personality test. During the medical screening, they review your medical records to make sure you qualify with their clinic. Then, you will have blood work and an ultrasound done. The blood work is to make sure you are disease free and up to date on certain vaccinations. The ultrasound is to check your uterine cavity for any polyps, cysts or abnormalities that may prevent an embryo from implanting. This is a great time to ask the clinic as many questions as you can about their specific process.
9. Once you are medically cleared, we can start legal contracts. The intended parents will draft up the first draft of the contract. It is then sent to your lawyer who will review it with you. Once you both agree on a final version, both you will get the contracts notarized.
10. Once you receive official legal clearance, it’s time for the embryo transfer procedure! You will be given an embryo transfer calendar from the clinic. This will lay out what medications you will take and when the procedure will be. You will have many monitoring appointments leading up to the transfer. If your clinic is local, you will travel here for your appointments. If your clinic is further away, you will monitor locally. Your medications will depend purely on the clinic. Typically, you start medications 2-3 weeks before your transfer.
11. Once your embryo transfer date arrives, you will travel to the clinic. Each clinic has their own protocol for this. Typically, the embryo transfer procedure is very quick. You may feel some discomfort, but many surrogates compare this procedure to a pap smear. Once the transfer is complete, you may be on bed rest depending on the clinic protocol.
12. You will have a blood test 7-14 days after the embryo transfer. If positive, you will have an ultrasound to confirm the heartbeat of the fetus. You will stay on medications til 10-12 weeks pregnant and then you will be released to your own OBGYN for the remainder of the pregnancy.
13. Around 12 weeks pregnant, the IPs attorney will start working on the pre-birth order (depending on what state you are in). This is very important as the intended parents need to become legal parents of the baby.
14. During the pregnancy, it’s always nice to give your intended parents updates. You can decide together what kind of relationship you want to have with each other.
15. For the delivery of the baby, it is completely up to you the way you want to labor. Once the baby is born, the intended parents will get to finally meet the baby you helped bring into this world! Surrogacy is amazing!
